What could be wrong with the PS2?

Well i got a PS2 for free because it will not read games, i used to have a PS2 a long time ago that would do this and if i tip it up on its side and try a few times it would read it, but this one i cant get it to do anything, sometimes it will say not a PS2 disk some times it just sits there foreve just "reading the disk", i can hear the disk drive making noises likes its trying to find it, should i try one of those cleaner kits?

if i dont get it working i dont care, i just wanted to see if i could put it in my truck, i have a 360 to play games on in the house

if it says disc read error that means that there is most likely a problem with your laser...in some cases you are able to adjust the laser yourself...i had one like that that my friend fixed for awhile by adjusting the voltage of the laser, it ended up lasting for about a month that way. I tried to fix it again, but i ended up selling it on eBay for like 40 bucks.

there are tutorials all over on how to fix

its really easy to fix. you have to take the thing apart, get to the disc drive, take the top off, and you see a white plastic gear than can be turned. you turn it all the way to one side, put in a game and test it out, if it works its fixed. if not, you move it one click and try it again.

yea, the white gear thing doesn't always work. the white gear in version of the ps2 i had the gear reset itself to its original position each time. thats why the voltage was the next solution. but it could have been something i did wrong.

Sweet I have two of em sitting in my garage cause they kept giving "disc read error" .

yeah, even though you have them, it's probably more worth it to leave them closed (warranty intact) and sell at least one on eBay before ps3 comes out

they are going to be worth a whole lot less when ps3 comes out

Im not a super gamer or anything I still play my old NES. Im not going to buy the ps3 at least for 2-3 yrs after it comes out.
