Rx-7 79-85 are very reliable cars if taken care of properly. You should be able to find a very nice car/with mods in your price range. Look for 84-85 SE models. Talk to other people who have them. You wont be disapointed.

Looks a lot like an integra. I don't like imports. I was actually considering a RX-8, but it was too expensive, and lacking in torque. It also gets like 16-17 mpg.

Rx8 wasn't made to be a torque monster. It was made to handle, and pull well out of corners. It does very very well at that.....

most people do not find the first gen rx7's attractive at all. I like the 86-91's the best. And first gens are reliable, and I've seen some that are extremelly fast. They are fun cars if you can get over the fugliness.
