I always hear about people "blowing" their subs and i have ruined a couple of mine so i was just wondering what exactly goes bad normally? On of my subs cone doesnt even travel at all and the other produced a buzz and no bass when its played. Just curious what could have went wrong.

Also if i have a dvc sub how can i check to make sure both voice coils are working?

When the cone locks up the voice coil has heated up enough to melt itself onto the motor of the sub.

By "blowing" most people probably mean the voice coil gets so hot the copper burns off the former.

On a DVC sub get yourself a digital multimeter, set it to ohms, check each coil. The reading should be close to what they are supposed to be.

many different parts can fail on a sub. Depends on parts used and build quality and what you are doing to it to cause it to fail.

Most commonly the coils are burned up.
