I had the aluminum dome but didnt find them harsh at all
Dont get caught in the whole "oh noes 8ohm" BS search a little more and you will find proof that there is nothing wrong with a 8ohm speaker and that in fact they are more efficient than a 4ohm speaker. James Bang's entire front stage is all 8ohm speakers and so are my mids. Look more into speakers from madisound and
parts express. I rather use raw drivers then mainstream pay for the name type speakers.
I didnt realized 8ohm speakers were okay to use in cars. Im still a newb at certain areas, what can I say?
oh noes all 8 ohms speakers...
they work for me
That looks like a sick setup you have going.
They can't as they're 8ohm noobie //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
xt25's have a very nice sound and are NOT bright at all, almost mellow unless you put a lot of power to them. Ran them for a few years and have the Alpine SPX 17's now. Both are very nice and not overly expensive.
DIYMA also have several tweeter tests, so check them out and the Zaph one. Lots of good info...
I will do that, thanks for the information. I used to go on
DIYMA a couple of months ago, completely forgot about that forum.
Dynaudio uses silk/fabric on every tweeter they make.
The ring radiator design (XT19 and XT25) is really no good beyond about 15* off axis.
This "smoothness" you're after is probably very low harmonic distortion. Read Zaph's tests and recommendations. "Smooth" means nothing to the objective-inclined shopper. A metal dome can sound "smooth" just as easy as a fabric dome.
Dyn's are probably a bit too expensive for me. The "Smoothness" I am looking for is a soft tweeter, not a bright tweeter. Im assuming a good metal tweeter wont be "harsh" because its a good tweeter, a bad/average metal tweeter would be in my books "harsh". therefore Out of all of the 10 or so metal tweeters I have heard, I did not like a single one, MAYBE the tweeter in the focal K2p's, i think the TN52's? Not sure, but that was still bright.
A metal dome probably can sound just as smooth as a fabric dome, but from what I have heard, what I am working with probably not. Id rather just stick with a silk/fabric dome.
one of the smoothest setups i've heard was full of metal...
how the hell could this be, though??? we all know metal domes or what not = harsh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
I would like to hear that setup, it would be interesting. Im not saying all metal tweeters are harsh, just what I have heard so far they are.
Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it.
