I am back to being a basshead again, And After doing googleing on old equipment I used to own and currently own it has lead me here! What a great forum! This forum has been able to show all my old stuff I used to own back in the day and current stuff I just got. Love it.

I love tuning systems. I cant tell you how many D-bags back in the day spent mad money on stuff and still it sounded like ****. Anyway great site! My old Phillips sound labs amp and radio shack optimus 300+ watt amp brought me here including my old lanzar dc12's. LOL. Alternator fryers yes.

 
Thanks, Maybe someone could answer a quick question for me being my volt meter was just stolen. If I wire a 4Ω woofer in parallel with a 2Ω one would my final impedence be 1.75 1.5 1.25 or 1Ω? The 2Ω woofer is a Dual 4Ω Jumped.

Do not mix impedances. It will be hard on sub and amp.

 
I don't even care man, Experimentation is in my blood. I am using cheap garbage. ELA500.1 bazooka amp. and a p. miller sub and a mtx 4000 thunder 10 year old sub. I got flagged by police today to turn it down. I also own a dls a3 and would never do this to it. But cheap crap, experiments are for research with me.

 
Thanks man. If anyone would like to know how to make the Ω symbol on your keyboard. You hold down alt and type in 234 in your number pad on the right not your upper number keys. Got a few emails asking me. Was into computers hard at one time. ΩΩ

 
The equation for parallel resistances (and impedances) is thus:

1/R1 + 1/R2 = X, 1/X = Rtotal

I'm no math whiz so forgive if the formula isn't expressed correctly. But for the two impedances you mentioned, 4 & 2:

1/4= 0.25

1/2= 0.5

.25+.5= .75

1/.75= 1.33Ω

For more than two parallel resistances, just keep repeating the 1/X + string for each and then divide 1 by the total.

 
More than enough. Thanks also. I was trying to figure out the DLS A3 I got that has the rating at 1.33Ω and the only thing I could make sense of was that there was no other explanation than mixing a 4Ω with a 2Ω or something and you would end up in that area. Strange. but the Moderator told me it would be ok at 1Ω, Which I comfortably believe with this hardware. Got to get another volt meter. I was not into software math or anything but hardware. Building systems from hardware parts from the ground up. PSU's motherboards, Memory, Video cards. ect.

 
Sounds like they wanted to eek out as much power as possible in their ratings without actually saying the amp is 0.5Ω stable. But frankly, 1.33Ω bridged is pretty dam close to a half ohm (.665) per channel.

I wouldn't be scared to run it at a half ohm... but I would keep an eye on it.

 
Well if its .5Ω stable, With a 140amp draw which makes sense, I would not only run a high velocity fan on it but also put a few heat pipe fan coolers on it. However I really don't want to take it apart and put high heat conductive thermal compound on its MOSFETS. I wish MOSFETS had thermal clocking. LOL, Unfortunatley I don't think they will ever get that high tech and only have a thermal sink case sensor.
