hey guys,

so i set my gain so that my volume maxed out at 46 out of 62. i did so with all bass boosts off, my sla at 4 (cause it makes the actual music louder...helped keep the sub from dowin em out), and my normal bass at 6 cause thats how i listen to music.

my eq was set to flat.

then after the gain was set i went into custom eq and adjusted the low to make my bass louder as well as my mids and highs. All bass boosts and what not stay off.

today i was listening to throw it up by lil jon at 45 volume. atfer the song played i went and smelled my sub/enclosure and what not and i smelled this weird smell.

now im almost positive that its only the smell of the custom enclosure's wood, caulk, and glue (mostly the wood smell tho) but i was curious what does a burning coil smell like? because 4 hours later (my truck was just sitting in my driveway for those 4 hours turned off) i went back and the smell was still there so i THINK its just the wood smell, but i wanted to ask you guys.

do you think im fine playing my music at that volume? I have a 12" type r running off a alpine mrp-m500 amp thats giving the sub 500RMS at 2ohm...so i dont see how i could be hurting the sub.

right and i think its just the smell of the wood and a faint smell of the dried caulk. but you guys think playing my music at volume around 45 is fine on my equipment when the only setting i chnaged from how i set my gain is the custom eq?

alright. well if my truck sat for four hours (without any music playing) and i wnet back to it and still smelled it could it possibly be the coils? im thinkin its just the wood...or i read somewhere that new subs (which ive only been cranking mine for a couple weeks) can smell odd

and what do you guys think about playin songs at 45 out of 46 volume with all settings they way they were when i set my gain except i am using custom eq and made changes in there? think its ok my my type r/mrp-m500 amp?

thanks guys

i mean if you have to stick your face in the speaker to smell it, i wouldnt worry about it so much.. but when you can smell it in the car.. then defently turn it down. if it is the coil

and volume 45-46 means nothing to us, we have no idea what the gains are set at.

you say you turn sla (i dont know what that is ) up to make your music louder to keep up with the subs.. technically its better to turn the subs down, rather than turn something else up.

Good question but I can sure tell you what it smells like, lool
i can tell ya what it smells like too... after last weekend i dont think i will ever forget.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

sla is the source level adjustment. and turning it up made the sub and speakers louder. but if i keep the sla at 0 then my bass drowns out the music.

so i set my gains with the sla up. my gain ended up at the half way mark on my amp where it is marked "nominal" i mean i heard that type-r's can take a beating...and my amp only does 500rms (and the sub is rated at 500rms) so i dont really see how i could ruin it? but could i?
