what a bargain

Don't hear much about the MX these days. How do you like it (well until you blew it apparently)?
Well, as a first sub i thought this sub was quite nice. I had it in a ****** pre-fab box and no electrical upgrades, this thing was pretty **** loud considering it was in the trunk too. I made my friends 13w7 have a run for its money! hahah. But i always felt like it wanted more power....and then it blew. I am shocked to be honest sir...

How did you blow it? Mechanically or thermally?

Im still some what a noob, sir and do not know how to answer that one. But, I was basically blasting music as usual, when the sub went quiet and i smelled the burnt coil. It was only played for 20min before it happened and it has been abused farr more that that before.

Sounds like you blew it thermally. Probably clipped it. What were you running it off of?

i was running it off of a soundstream rubicon 2500D, wired to 2 ohms...so getting around 1700rms.
Nice amp, my buddy is running a pair of FI SSD 18's off the same amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It shouldn't have blown off that power if it was set up correctly. I'm guessing the gain was improperly set, or there was a wiring issue.

must have been a wiring issue, but the song was bass boosted FYI, i dont know if that has anything to do with it...? As for wiring issue, I dont understand why it would have blown now instead of 6 months ago.....

most programs that can bass boost (i.e. audacity) don't protect against clipping...idk how bass boosted it was but chances are it was seeing some major clip

Bass boost could have clipped it. Clipping a sub limits its cooling capabilities, which can blow it pretty easily.

Sorry if my lack of car audio knowledge offended you sir, but im not as dumb as some other rich chmucks in my town.
