my stock alternator is rated at 85amps. i have no idea if this a really poor one or not. I’m finally going to get around to do the Big 3 tomorrow. just wondering if that doesn't work judging on the 85 amps do you think i will be dipping in to my back pocket for more money on Car Audio??????

Oh and as my thread asked what size is a good alternator

the thing is at the moment im getting pretty big power dips and im running a small set up;

one Sony 250 watt max for a 12" sub

One Sony 600watt max for 2 6*9's

i have had these for ages now and i haven't bothered to up grade because my electrics are band enough now

with the big 3 should i be able to run these and nearly full wack with out any power dips or will i have to look into getting a new alt? also what would you do first buy a alt or a deep cycle battery???

i would go alt. then battery. i'm suprised you are having troubles with those 2 amps. my 2 PG amps slightly stress my stock 90 amp electrical system. i'll be throwing in a 200 amp alt. and big 3 upgrade soon. i went with the 200 amp in case i plan to uprgade amps later.

thats what i can not get my head around. could it be as simple as the battery is not good or could the alt be faulty? the car is 4 years old. its a Rover 25 BTW do you guys have this in the states its also the same as a MG ZR???

my stock alt is 110amps.......i think that cool being that its stock......i plan on running an orion 2500 and orion 7005,,, i know i'll be pulling current out the aaassss...but i'll do the big 3 soon to see if it will help...already got the batts so i'm good

what size power wire you have going to your amps?

upgrade your ground wire from the negative terminal to chassis to at least 4awg. This is the most important wire in the big3 as electrons flow from neg to pos. The engine is also bolted to the chassis using metal motor mounts (most cars) so the other ground isn't as neccessary. Upgrading the wire from the alt to the battery shouldn't do too much unless you've upgraded the alt as the stock wire is SUPPOSED to be able to flow as much current as the stock alt can put out. The amp will only be able to pull as much current as the ground wire can feed.....make sense????
