i've put 98 songs so far, using 1gb. i used songs from my own cd's and encoded them to 320kbps .aac, so they are pretty high quality. at that quality, 300+ can fit, at 192kpbs more than 500+.

i think $200 is quite reasonable.

I have a 20 gig 4th gen I could sell but it has a personal engraving on the back. New condition, no scratches or wear. has about 500 tracks on it. Love it but thinking of getting a 40 gig

One word of caution. Do not order the $200 ones from Amazon. I did and it was a scam. Amazon refunded my $ however. The resale value of these things are outrageous, selling on ebay used for the same price as new in most cases.

I can get one with an educator's discount which differs by model if you want a brand new one.
