Just leave the terminal cup in place and run the wires out the box another way. Drill holes, run the wires through the holes and seal them with wood filler or silicone or something. or just make sure all the connections are good on the term cup.

While I agree you should ditch the terminal cup, I don't really like this method. I did it once and for some reason my silicon seal blew out of the hole many times...

A better method is to just use regular bolts. Drill holes just barely big enough for the bolts, and use ring terminals on each side. Cheap, practical speaker terminals.
