Weekend Fun - MJ-18M + SD-12k

Last weekend I made up a modified MJ-18M and we decided to do some power testing using a SounDigital SD-12k. This unit has a single 1 Ohm voice coil and a couple of other mods:

The box we placed it in. Not sure what the size or tuning was as it belonged to Murilo. Perhaps he can comment on it:

First test went fairly well with 1.5kw:

Second test did better with more power:

Third test was with 11.6kw of power:

Fourth test didn't produce any more output but the FrankenMJ took quite a bit - almost 16kw(!):

That's pretty decent power for a single SD-12k amp!

Finishing up on some testing, but the MJ-18M will be available in 4, 2 and 1 Ohm versions. I am also working on a high Q version specifically for sealed boxes and infinite baffle setups.

But will they bass race is the real queston, But will soon see.. will mostly run 2 ohm on one amp for daily and then one amp per sub for burps. Yeah, just burps. It was raining out and quite cold so things weren't quite as 'loose' as they could have been.

Honestly, it is hard to say without knowing your setup. Murilo's setup was far from SPL-based. It was simply something he threw together for his truck. Since he had a ton of power on tap it didn't matter too much what kind of box he put together.

If you build your setup solid and tweak it accordingly, then yes, you could quite easily.

Say 10-15 cu ft @ 32hz with a couple 6" aero's. I know its hard but I was asking more so if its possible for the MJ's to take it. I ran 1200w RMS to one and it was great but that wasnt an MJ-m.
