What happens when you wax your vehicle in the sun? I know the ish says to do it in the shade, but this weekend its finally not snowing/raining, but its gonna be sunny and 45 degrees..........

I wanted to clay bar and wax the rig. What happens when you do this in the sun? I guess i could do one side at a time in the suns shadow....

Nothing will happen to the car's finish. The shade warning refers to ease of application. In cool weather like this, doing it in the sun will actually make it easier to apply and buff - as long as the surface of the car isn't very hot to the touch. During the summer, though, waxing in direct sunlight will dry the wax too much too quickly, and it will be ridiculously difficult to buff out, and you are less likely to get full, even coverage over the vehicle.

Exactly. It's all a matter of ease of application and removal. I think with the Sun and a nice cool day, it might be pretty decent. Some of the new[er] wax products (actually they're polishers) are really outstanding to get on, then off (without needing Mr. Miyagi). I used Zaino for years, but recently switched over to Adam's products and they're pretty outstanding.

BTW, Devin, I have some new Hertz 165.4's arriving today. Finally going to have something for the amp to power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

leaving it in the sun will in fact **** up your paint. I don tknow where all of you got the idea that it wont. Depending on the compound of the wax if you let it cook on in the sun when you wax it out you will have ungodly swirls. Granted this usually happens in more of a high temp, high uv rating time but if you leave wax that has been buffed in it will cause paint problems.

The question was about waxing in direct sun - if you follow proper technique: doing a section at a time, letting it dry and removing it - it should be fine. Given that's it cool outside and the sun isn't as direct in February, it shouldn't be a problem and in fact, could help accelerate drying.

Putting on a thick layer of wax in the middle of summer and letting it sit all day in direct sun is a different story //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
