Want to have $5 dollar a gallon gas?

I don't have an issue as long as they allow the private market to run the caps and trades. There is a ton of money to be made by selling the right to pollute.
Yeah, people said the same thing with mortgage backed securities //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

So you like $5-$6-$7 dollar gas? You can afford basically what would equal car payments over a year for your use of energy? By 2020 the average cost will be 4000-5000 dollars a year in higher energy costs...They will be trading carbon tickets in Chicago like the do stocks on Wall Street.
Good, this is what I hoped. However, private equity will snap the up so fast...

People made a ton of money with MBS....and there is still is.

There will be money to be made with these caps as well.

That is, unless factories shut down and move other places, enterprises become more less polluting, etc. However, in places where the permits exist, they have continued to make money.

Yup more corruption as well...Nothing like having a lying government wanting to control every aspect of human life. I bet more money goes to helping 3rd world nations than to helping the environment here. Just like cutting the military defense when Iran and N Korea are developing missiles to reach our boarders. Its just funny hearing them cut defense spending while haveing to move anti-missle defenses to Hawaii and other Pacific nations.

Perhaps they are willing to take that chance to improve the environment. There will be many "green" jobs made. I am not sure how easy it will be to capitalize though.
Sure there will be some green jobs, but how many "non-green" jobs are going to be replaced by the green ones?

I'm pretty sure I see how we both stand on this issue.

However, I feel that the government benefiting from this is unjust. I agree that if it were to be done, privatization would be the best way, and most efficient.

There is nothing about improving the environment in this bill and if we switch out fast like Spain did to green technology we will lose MILLIONS of jobs the lose MILLIONS more as the tasks of doing so finish.

I don't think we, as a people, really care enough about the environment that we are willing to pay for a clean one.

Emailed to my rep:

Say no to new taxes! Say no to any new spending bills! This is getting ridiculous. Within the first 6 months of 2009, the US Government has managed to spend trillions of dollars that it doesn't even have. The stimulus is a trillion dollars' worth of pork, and the bailouts are interfering with free market. The United States of America is a capitalist society, not a socialist society, nor do we want to be.
This new Cap and Tax bill is rushed, and is backed by a scientific theory that holds no water. The last thing this country needs is more energy taxes at a time like this. It's simple economics; higher taxes would be a kick to the economy's ribs while it's already down. Is congress trying to run the nation into the ground? It seems like they're doing the opposite of what is good for us.

The government is already too big and is still getting bigger, and it needs to stop.

we have plenty of our own capable of that.
