Head unit volume: from 0 to 33.
Comp amp gain: from 2.0 to 0.2v, set at 2.0v.
Sub amp gain: from 9.0 to 0.2v, set at 1.8v.
My comps are some average Pioneers that are pretty harsh but my ears don't mind it. I amp'd them a week ago, set the gain to ~1.8v to match the HU voltage. They would distort at around 25 volume on the HU because the crappy crossovers don't cancel out enough bass. I turned the gain down to 2.0 and it still distorts at 28 volume. The sub and sub amp can handle 30 volume without distorting, so I'm not getting everything out of my sub stage, which is disappointing.
Also, old school Sony amp doesn't have a high or low pass, just one knob for the gain. Head unit is not adjustable either. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
What should I do? What I was thinking...
-Get new crossovers that will cancel out more of the lower frequencies.
-Turn up the gain on the sub amp so the sub will be louder at a lower volume, and just turn it up to 27 or 28 to get the maximum performance out of my drivers, instead of 30.
