ok, my back door rattles WAY to much. im going to deaden it. but ive heard deadening the back window isnt easy and i dont know how to get it rattle free. if i did a wall isntead, and sealed it off from the back, wouldent that not rattle the back at all?

Yes a wall would stop it from rattling, but if deadening the rear deck and stopping it from rattling is hard, how the hell you plan to wall it off as that's a LOT more work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Deadener, self tapping screws, and weatherstripping foam are your friends for making the rear deck quiet. Mine had ZERO rattles.......but I did a wall anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yep that just about says it all...

If u were really thinking about walling it off by all means go for it. But if u do think that deadening the back door is a lot of work u will have a rude awakening when a wall build begins.

first off, its a expedition so no rear deck. i can deaden the back door, its the glass. the glass opens up, and when its closed it rattles. im not sure how to deaden glass tho. what all is added in to doing a wall? like whats the extra work involved

edit: here are some ideas, some are probabbly dumb.

ok, first is glue thin metal support bars accross the glass, reinforcing it.

second, cut a decently thick peice of lexan (dads friend has a cnc machine) and replace the window with that.

Hmmm... To me, it sounds like the first problem might be loose screws. I'd check all the screws and connections around the window and things, make sure everything's tight.

Out of the two ideas, I like the lexan one better. If you did a direct swap, you could always put the original window back on later. I'm not sure how much that would stop the rattling though.

ok just checked, i think lexans too expensive. also, i dont really want to make a new box so walls out of the question. im going to try the metal bar idea. maybe with hotglue at first so i can see if it works, and if not i can just reheat the glue and take the metal off

or just glue sheets of lexan to it. some of you guys have to have ideas on what you did. i cant be the only one with this problem

yea i hope. im going to order some damp today. i might call and see if ant has any bstock.

also, i have some inch by quarter inch steel bar, i might make like an H shape and glue it to the window to reinforce it some

Like mentioned deaden the hell out of the rear door and also use weatherstripping tape to build up the seal the glass closes against, so it'll close tighter...
