w6v2 flutter

I am considering purchasing a 12w6v2 and I have been reading up on it. In a review by CA&E the guy says that it is pretty much flawless except for a flutter (mechanical noise) at 80hz. Has anyone that owns the sub or has head the sub clarify if this noise is there or if it is audible. Thanks.

I remember reading the CA&E write up on the w6v2 and they gave it some great reviews. Of course CA&E fluff the hell out of JL AUdio but, I think this review was pretty accurate.

the w6v2 is a great sub.

So from people who have heard the sub at 80 hz, there is not significant noise? I want to make sure this sub will be perfect for my SQ setup. I dont want to have to worry about 80hz because my sub cant produce it right.

Can you explain a little bit more, I am pretty new to car audio. I will be running Diamond Audio s600s components with 150rms to each side. So if I cross the mids that low the sub wont play that frequency?

If your mids can be crossed low enough, it won't be an issue at all ...
id agree here

cross them at 63Hz on a 24Db network, wont have to worry about a thing.

and if you do cross them higher than that, i wouldnt worry about it. i remember the write up mentioning the fluttering, but in a car it is going to be pretty much inaudible unless you are listening for it, and SQ judging will be dont at levels low enough that it will A) most likely be non-existent, and B) you SHOULD be crossed lower than 80Hz for SQ judging...

do most people cross mids at about 70hz? and subs like 60? 65?
where you cross your sub and components over are completely dependant on the car its in and the speakers used. You can a) use a meter and test tone and set the x-over accordingly to reduce spikes/fill dips in the frequency curve (along with an eq) or if you listen to music and not test tones you can do like most people b) set up your components 1rst and cross them over as low as they will play without audible distortion at the power level you are feeding them. Then set up your subs X-over point to match or what sounds good to your ears. 70hz sounds like a reasonable enough x-over point for 6.5" Hex components. Personally I dont even look at the frequencies when setting my X-over, I let my ears decide. IMO x-over of about 80hz is about the limit for keeping the bass up front. Whatever the case nobody can "recommend" a crossover point for anybody else.
