mag is cheaper prolly better simply put mags are prolly better all around for the cash "get the best bump for your buck" thats all i gots to say have fun with those mags bholty

I'd spend the extra money on the JL if it were better for me. It's not, so I luck out on both ends. Extremely lucky as a matter of fact. I like a bang for the buck like everyone else, but I will not sacrifice anything in achieving my goal, even if it means buying the $1K+ sub.

well before i got rid of my Mag12 (2nd Gen) i did have a chance to test it against a W7(last years) on a Jl 1000/1 in the same size boxes in the same car,03 jetta, at the windshield. I am not quite sure of the mic but it was from a shop that went out of business in VA so hopefully it was accurate. My friend and I spent a whole day testing these. I am assuming the power was at 1k RMS since both were wired down to 1ohm Mag and 1.33 W7. On the pure numbers side of things the Mag had a slight edge in output at it reached in max in the car at 47hz doing 139.3db sealed and 141.8-142db ported. The W7 was very close on both, closer on the sealed( on some tests it was a .01 or .1 higher but then went lower) but gave up about .75 to 1db to the Mag ported. On SQ, its hard to please everyone but we listened to everything. We love Perfect Circle and some new classical music because of the depth of the bass, also a pipe organ can kill a sub. Also various test tracks were used. Both were exceptionally good but we liked the more pronounced low end of the Mag, not to say the W7 didn't have it, the Mag just had more umph. That being said, the new Mag from when i tested it was a step up from my current(now sold) Mag and i would expect the new Mag to be hands down better than the counterpart 12 and more on par with the 13W7.
