Any old VW bug owners here? I'm looking into buying one, but I'm virtually starting from scratch. Whatever help I can get would be awesome. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

thats cool....i'd love to see a nice old school bug build with DD equipment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif...perfect room for a pair of 1508s in the rear parcel....parts for the vehicle are very cheap and they are easy to work on...not to mention fun to drive...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yep. The only problem is that I know absolutely nothing about these cars. I've only seen a handful of them in person EVER yet I still want one lol. I just don't know what engine options I have, and how reliable these things are, etc. Got any advice?

most arn't very fast....I've never owned one either....I've always sorta wanted one....also....if I ever ran across a deal...I'd probably pick one up....I think they are pretty reliable...not quite as good on gas as you'd think...but decent...I think the 1.6 is a common engine size...but you can go with a peppier 2.0 wiith twin webbers for a little more get up and go...

Put a small block chevy in it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif:laugh://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

These are very easy to find parts for, very cheap to restore and fix. Definitely a good car to start with if ur trying to learn how to fix things urself.

I know one thing about them you can remove the engine just by taking out 4 bolts.
4 Bolts and the throttle cable. Did it a zillion times for a beetle I had a while back. 1835cc engine with a single dual barrel Webber idf on it. Pretty strong engine fyi. They are very easy to work on, I would suggest switching to hydraulic lifters as a future upgrade should you get one, unless you want to be adjusting valves all the time. Most people I saw with systems were able to shoe-horn 2 12's in the back package tray, amps were normally up front in the "trunk". You can get them quite fast, the cars weighed next to nothing, charging options may be limited however.

I'm mechanically inclined, but I've never done any major work on a car. Are they pretty easy to work on from bumper to bumper? I'd like to buy something decent, but still improve on it on my own. I'd assume I would need an engine lift and an air compressor right?

I've also been looking at 1950 - 1960-ish Ghia's.
