VW bug owners?

This is what I would look for were I going to do it again (see below). A jack and jackstands is all you need, granted, like anything else the better stuff you have, the easier it becomes. Air compressor would be very handy, especially if you plan on doing any body work at all. Most parts are cheap, and easy to replace, they are very simple cars. The main thing I would look for when buying a vw is how the floorboards and heater channels look. These essentially are the frame of the car, so you want solid heater channels at the very least, if not solid floorboards. Common places of rust are under the rear seat, below the batery, and up by the door hinges.

Probably cause you see a wall of moofers in everything! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

That sir, is a type 3 fastback. A bit more modern then the beetle, and a bit easier to work with. And it looks really cool in it's own way, not too far off from some of the old porsches. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Man my n00bie questions are already coming out....

What are "heater channels"? Never heard of the term //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

and I won't be doing the body work. That is one thing that isn't worth my time. All the mechanical stuff I'd like to do myself.

i have a 71 super //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

heater channels run along the door sills on the inside, they route "warmed" air from the engine bay to about ur feet.

i highly recommend getting one if you're interested. it's a great old car to start learning how to work on cars.

super easy to work on as long as you're willing to learn. and they're as reliable as you want to make them. if you don't mind spending an hour a month making sure everything is tuned right you won't have any problems you can't just fix yourself.

as far as systems go, there's not much room to work with, but i took out my backseat to get more room so i could put my subs and amps in the car. the backseat was pretty much useless anyway as I'm 6'3'' and won't pull my seat up for people in the back.

parts are cheap. there's so many different things you can do to the car, as there's a huge customizing scene.

and everyone on either of these sites is 100% willing to help as much as they can with any problem and sharing knowledge...

Coming up with an audio system isn't a big priority, but space isn't a big deal to me. My Tacoma had almost nothing for space, but I found a way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Keep the advice coming. I'll definately be asking alot more from the VW folks around the internet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif
