Volume fluctuation While Driving

What the title says. All speakers do this. I would say the volume change is about 1 or 2 up or down from where it is at. So if I set it to 8, it will go to like 6 back to 8 and then 10 (not literally, but just explaining the level changes - the knob doesn't say it changed is what I'm saying).

Is this the battery?

Alternator?

Or other?

I have had to replace batteries/alternators on other cars before. I don't have a battery level gauge on my car so I have no way to tell. But I will say that it happens most frequently when I am stopped. When I am on the highway, the times this happens drops a lot.

THANKS!

PS - I got almost 45,000 miles on car and never changed either Battery/Alternator (3 years +).

what kind of headunit do you have?

are you running any amplifier's?

if it's a pioneer headunit, make sure ur asl is not turned on, it will turn ur headunit volume up or down acording to the speed of the car.

Awesome! My system is:

Pioneer DEH-80MP Headunit

2 x RF Amps (subs and components)

Polk Components

Kicker Mids

I will check the ASL. It might of been turned back on because I disconnected the battery a couple of weeks ago to install FatMat in the car.

EDIT: I thought Pioneer HU's changed volume if the windows are open. But this makes more sense because I could never understand how it would know the window's are open hehe.

No it definately changes. Like if I am listen to a song like Billie Jean with the constant beat it has, that beat will suddenly become softer, then it will get solid and loud. I thought it was my ears but my ears are clean. I will check the ASL because everything got reset and I know I didn't change it back - assuming that the default setup is with this 'on' on reset? Am I right? If it is default 'off' then there is something else going on. I was thinking it could be the battery if that is the case.

I was just going to make a thread about something similar.

My bass level.. not my speakers fluctuates. And it's not the obvious voltage drop, it's really at random times...

but does the sound get softer when ur moving or get softer when sitting still?

Softer when sitting still. I know this because I assumed it was the battery was not getting charged by the alternator. Maybe it is the ASL. I was thinking about taking it to NTB and getting a better battery if that was the case. When driving, the sound is constant.

k then well go with seth's prognosis. the ASL is probably set. are you getting things like lights dimming and what not? im not sure what car you have but my girl has 3 amps running in a honda civic with the stock battery and she doesnt even have a significant change when she stops.

if you are going to go the battery route consider checking around online for a deep cycle battery.

what car are we talking about?
