you have a few options. Virtual machine on top of xp, dual boot xp and Ubuntu or wipe out XP and use ubuntu. let us know which option you'd like to do and we'll point you in the right direction

I did a dual boot with xp and 8.04

ubuntu requires 2 partitions, but you can put it on your data drive if you have C: and D: and the install will partition the D: to D: E: and F: where ubuntu will run on E: and F:

ubuntu can run on a single partition... unless you are referring to SWAP. I prefer to use to keep / and home on seperate partitions though.

how about virtual machine on top of xp to see if i like it first...im guessing this will also run the slowest?
One thing to note if you just want to try it, this is a Live cd. Which means, you can stick the ubuntu cd in your cd drive and boot it up. you can play all you want in here and it will NOT touch your hard drive.

When I go home for lunch I'll pick up the machine and give it a shot.....prolly be around 2 or 3 before I get it up and running
btw, nice laptop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif new company is supposed to be getting me one, i'm excited.

I had it setup as C: was system for xp and D: was data, then E: was 8.04 and F: was swap(about 1.8gig)

^^^the only downside to not loading is that you can not save any system changes, and you will not be able to play with any of the cool shit it can do. however you will get to experience it's interface and make a decision on if you like it or not. Just remember once loaded it will be faster and you will be able to run more visual mods
