Viper 5901 in a '02 4Runner

Was wondering if the Viper 5901 is even a good security/remote start system? Found a really good price, in which I will need to act fast on, for the unit and am extremely tempted on going for it.

Also, since I will be installing it into a '02 4Runner... it has already a stock security system with keyless entry remote and can open the back window. And, it annoys the hell out of me. Does two horn beeps when it's being unlocked and 1 horn beep when it's locked. Hard to sneak out when you got a horn blaring.

Anyways... Back to my question... Would be easier for me to install it or take it to some store (BestBuy or another Electronic store) and have them install it... quoted BestBuy and it would cost nearly $200.

I know I would need another modulator to bypass... just not sure on which one or what else to do.

Also, my previous car was an Avalon and I blew the head gasket. So, basically just donated the car to get the tax refund but, as the tow-truck was waiting I quickly took out my Alpine HU CDA-9830, my PDX-1.1000 amp, my US-Acoustics 4.600 and my 1242d type R sub and unplugged everything, basically... anything that wasn't able to disconnect from the main unit is now gone. Was it a loss cause? Or can I still rectify it by adding some much needed cords? I haven't installed anything in at least 5 years... so I am back to noob status with installation.

the 5901 is a great unit and the new remotes that come with the vipers are sexy as hell. If you have never done a remote start before, I would recommend taking it to a certified installer. They will set you up with the correct bypass mod and should also be able to adjust the security settings so your car does not honk (if you don't want it to)...

Just get a volt meter and come common sense.

The 2001 wiring should be the same as the 2002 so go by this wiring and test the wires to make sure it is the correct diagram.

Just connect wires from alarm to the stock harness with proper connections and while your in there find the stock alarm, if it has its own "brain" and not embedded into another unit just unplug it and your set for your new alarm; if it is embedded then find a modulator or a bypass unit of some sort.

Great... all great responses. I have decided to go for it... but... my woman found out about it. So, now I have to wait 4 months till Christmas *eye twitches*

Any ideas on how to dismember the horn/honk everytime I lock or unlock the car to keep my sanity intact in the meantime?
