Vinyl junkies...get in here.

Thinking about purchasing my first turntable soon

Make sure you get a universal one that plays MP3, SACD and DVD-A.

hey...r u using it just listening? or like scratching n all that? cuz i had tecnics 1200s..but i sold it...but for a budget get the numark tt200 and a shure m447...i dunno if thats what u need though..but those r good for mixing and battling..

but shure needles r the best imo
did you even LOOK at the pic of his turntable? He's looking into audiophile turntables, not DJ battling.

I dunno about the glass platter. Resonant freq may work in its favor though.

I'd have to break out my old stereo review mags to look for cart info.

As for the glass platter, I've heard that replacing it with an acrylic platter double the thickness improves the sound - although I'm sure I could experiment with different materials.

Here are a few that may be a little more in your price range. I'm also on the market for a turntable and the first one I've linked is what I'm leaning toward.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

There is alot more on that site but there are some upward of 30k.....wow

I like that one, matching tube preamp.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Yep, that one is quite nice. Do you have vinyl collection?? or are you just getting into it.??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oh that question also refers to Jack.

I'm just getting into it...my dad has boxes and boxes of albums from the '60s to the '80s, but he got rid of his turntable when we moved seven or eight years ago. So they haven't been played since then.

I figure now that I've got the rest of the system that's up to par, why be content with digital? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

got a couple of Stanton STR8-30s' like em alot, direct drive (even though i know you dont care) good quality, etc. the needle they come with is more sq oriented (if i remember correctly). i'd check out one of these.

Wow, I'm jealous as hell of that.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I hear that. About 2 years ago I never thought I would get into vinyl until I met one of my best friends who happened to have a decent little turntable with a Sunfire tube amp and preamp. Since then I've been collecting vinyl but I only have 20 or 30 because I'm not going to collect ALL vinyl, just the ones that I think I would actually listen to. Now I have to find a decent table to replace my Phillips el cheapo from the 70s.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

So what do you think about the tables I linked you??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Did you read my first post in the thread? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I've all but decided on the MMF-5...not only is it a drop-dead gorgeous piece of audio gear, it seems to have a lot of cool bells 'n whistles for the price.

Now I just need to find a good phono stage...probably end up with one of these: http://www.bottlehead.com/et/adobespc/Seduction/seduction.htm

Ok Jack, I have a question. If I were to go with a MMF 5 and a phono pre amp with it, how would I use that with my existing receiver?? Or am I stuck with getting a seperate 2 channel amp and incorporating a completely different system. In other words, my Denon receiver is essentially already a preamp and amp so could I use the phono pre amp and then the pre amp on the receiver in conjunction with each other or what?? I'm confused with this.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
