well with how much wood your going to use, birch would be hella costly

and if you use rods, i think they are almost 10$ a rod for 3/4" and 36" long, plus the nits and washers and what not, they do have extender pieces too

but it looks cool with the big bolts sticking out, i would do dowels but im cheap
