2) Actually, there is great economic evidence that many atheletes are greatly underpaid. I can show you the journals if you would like.

3) You can only hope and dream to be intellectually superior to me.

4) I do not consume illegal drugs.

5) I do not run 15" subs....but I do have 15" rims.

Athletes in organized sports or athletes like in track & field?

I dont think anyone in league sports is underpaid. Theyre just meaningless games after all. Minimum base salary in baseball is what 300k? NYPD, FDNY, teachers salary is ~35k. Now thats underpaid.

Obviously, we as a country place more value on entertainment than we do on education. Which people have less of a problem dropping $100 for a family outing at an athletic event than spending the same sum in additional taxes that would support education.

In our area, they wanted to raise some money to build some new schools. The measure was soundly defeated as no one wanted to raise taxes to build new schools. The next year, they change the bill to say an increase in wheel is designed to build new football stadiums for each of the county schools. Bill passes quite easily....then those in finance simply allocate funds that would have went to a football stadium anyway to building a new school.

Why aren't they underpaid? They provide entertainment to millions who wish to be entertained. The networks, merchandisers, and teams make money off the backs of these atheletes. Because all the NBA, NFL, MLB, etc is provide a market for those who wish to be entertained to make a transaction with those who entertain. In a better system, the operating effeciency of the market would increase; thus lowering transaction costs. The transaction costs robs the players out of additional revenue. Whenever the major sports organization taxes (or gets it fair share) it reduces operating effeciency as those who wish to be entertained cannot directly compensate those who entertain....And as far as markets go...those organization tax quite a but higher than other markets such as the NASDAQ, AMEX, et al.

Here is just one article for your research, as operating effeciency and cost of monoplies are only one reason they are underpaid.

no, they make money off the backs of the fans. Athletes arent underpaid, fans are overpaying. All the corporate entanglement which trickes down to the fans pocket stinks. Dunkin Donuts is now the official coffee of the New York Mets (& Yankees!!!).The only way you can get a good seat nowadays is if you work for a company that holds season tickets. Jerseys should be going for more than $100 soon. It all stinks.

How can fans overpay?

They aren't forced to pay anything. In your opinion, they may be not extracting the highest value for their dollar, but in their opinionm it is the highest and best use of resources.

It seems obvious the fans tend to think it is worth it. As long as folks are willing to pony up the dough, how is not a mutually beneficial transaction.
