Hi guys,

I'm new to the thread and also new to the whole car audio scene.

I've currently got a pair of 6" VDO Dayton "sub's" (?) lying around, without the tweeters.. and yellow things. (www.precisioncarsound.co.nz/vdodaytospkrs.htm)

I have a 1997 Suzuki Vitara with LIMITED .. VERY LIMITED.. boot space. With the rear seats up, there's about 12-15" space between the boot door and the back of the seats.

My plans are to mount a sub/amp on the door of the boot. My question(s) are:

  • Would the speakers I have be able to act as subs with an amp?
  • Should I?
  • Is there anything else that can work in such small areas?

I'm only using the VDO dayton's because they're lying around.

Any suggestions will appreciated!

Cheers!

Its a trunk, not a boot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.
He's from Australia ... respect his locale.

Post up your max dimensions and I bet we could find a sub or two to fit in there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

1. you will have a couple of really crappy subs. 2. i wouldnt do it. 3. post up the dimensions of your "boot" and we can probably fix you up with a good set of budget subs if thats what you want. oh yea noooiiiiiiissssseeeee (crikey style)

Shut your penis holster you call a mouth.

To be COMPLETELY honest, you'll probably get little to no help from the low lives on this site.

If you need anything & have AIM, I could surely help you via AIM or if you've got any questions, I can surely answer them.

First off, you're gonna wanna look at some ACTUAL subwoofers, rather than mid-range woofers. That'd be the best starting place for you.

Cheers guys!

Yeah some people here call the "boot", the "trunk".. and vice versa not such a big deal, I think its due to 85% of TV shows here are American.

I only suggested the VDO's because they're just lying around in the garage from a previous ride. Someone also suggested I could try 7"x10" speakers aswell?

http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278718

But either way, I don't mind forking out the dosh (money) for some subs.

The wall of the trunk has a plastic panel that are attached by those plastic clip thingys, much like the ones found on the door trims, so I believe I should be able to remove it.

The panel measures:

90-100 cm/35.4-39.4 in wide

30 cm/11.8 in high

The trunk door is about 6 cm/2.4 in deep

I'm not bothered about the width of it, but more the depth and how much is required..

hope that info helps!

Would the depth be an issue? Or would I just have to manufacture a fake wall so to mount the subs on?
You would be mounting the subs in a box.

and whats the difference between ported and sealed?
Sealed is just that, a completely air tight box. This is generally preferred for sound quality over loudness.

Ported has a vent in the box. Generally preffered for loudness over sound quality, however a well designed box will have a best of both worlds result.

Ahhh ok.. yeah I've seen diagrams of those! niiice ok.

But I don't think that I can fit any sort of box in the trunk area, and can only imagine having something mounted on the trunk door (about 6 cm/2.4 in deep).

Or am I just reading your post wrong?
