using normal subwoofers in boats?

I know there are marine subwoofers but they all seem to be either really ***** or really expensive.

IS it chill to use subs designed for car audio in a boat? Or will the environment destroy them?

Ps i was thinking about getting a couple type R's....staying away from paper cones.

Isn't this more of a common sense question? To a speaker, it will have no idea if its mounted in a boat, or a convertible car. Dont get it wet. Dont leave it exposed to the weather for long periods of time. Dont mount it where it would get rained on or exposed to sunlight (sunlight not so bad these days tho). If you are talking about some sort of day-tripper boat that will be covered or enclosed most of the time, I see no problem using a 'standard' subwoofer.

*shrug*
