Using a Sony XM-1502SX

well, i started off with a '94 ranger, and put a sony xplod in it. i had no idea about car audio, and i thought since that their home audio products were great, i thought that their car audio products were great. wrong. i sent the thing back 4 times in a 2 year period because the internal amp kept taking a sh*t. i had sony 6X8 speakers in the front, and the right one's cone froze. then, me being stupid, bought a sony amp, and the thing kept shutting off from a thermal meltdown (minding you that this was all installed by best buy, so it was not me screwing it up), i sent it in for the warrenty, got it back, installed it again, and the thing caught on fire. thats why i'm with a '97 ram. so it did help me in a way in upgrading my ride:)

I have had problems with sony as well. I bought a xm1502sx and the overcurrent light came on after 6 months, i sent it to a sony repair place and after four months of them trying to figure out what was wrong with it they had sony send me a refurbished one and after a month of using that one the overcurrent light came back on, i was still under warranty but threw the POS away instead of dealing with it being sent off for another 4-5 months. I have Kicker COmp VR 12's and they pounded hard when i had the amp.

End of discussion.

Sony does not belong anywhere on this forum, its a pure BAD product with values that are completely off. Dont get this as an insult but your sony will not put out the 1 x 380w @ 4 ohm....

In any case you already have the amp so you will be wanting to use it... I personally would just take two dual voice coil subs so that you can let the subbox play @ 4 ohm together rather instead of wiring it parallel to your amp and running it on 2 ohm.

Look into a low wattage sub with dual coils, maybe the emphaser s3d is something for you, it is a dual voice 12" sub running at 400w rms (200 per coil). Saw it at ACR site for 119 $ each
