ok im sure some ppl have come across this on amps

say you're only using one channel out of the inputs.. is there any benefit to either using a Y cable and use both inputs or to run two rca's (front rear from hu) and connect both right channels into it say?

hopefully you ppl get what i mean

Do you mean one pair? Or one channel? There's a difference. One channel is just the right or left side, while one pair is left and right channels.

And, in terms of using a Y cable, no. There will be no real benefit. At least, I don't believe so. The current shouldn't be any stronger, or anything.

like say you got a 4 channel amp.. and you're bridging it with two sets of inputs on the amp (for each side)

so now you got 4 inputs on the amp.. LR LR..but since you're bridging them you only need say R on one side and L on the other..

this leaves a free R and L on each side..

i just wasnt sure if hooking up a signal to each unused input would benefit anything.. i didnt think the Y cable would really do anything maybe.. but say you hooked up the HU front Right output and the HU rear Right output to use both inputs.. not sure if this would increase voltage to the amp or not?

Depends on the amp. A monoblock amp, no. Others, to an extent.... yes.

What you'll really run into is many songs are R+L not just R or L so on many recordings you can lose the kick drum or the bass guitar or whatever to that sub you are bridging to if it is a well recorded stereo production and you are only using one of the channels into the amp. You might not hear all the music if set up a certain way, but the way you are saying using 2 channels on L and 2 channels on R each bridged out, in the end it should work itself out.

yeah i know they're alot of R+L in recording.. but i just figured that the rear and front outputs off the HU should (in theory) be sending the same signals to each channel.. so if you hooked up both RR to one side of the amp and both LL to the other side.. (this is actually for my front speakers) i didnt think anything would be lost..? or if its does nothing at all

Well, with my eclipse AVN5500 I can send any signal to any speaker and control it from the head so some heads do process each channel independently. To what extent I send the signal between F + R I haven't bothered looking into, but I don't know what head units are set up for, and capable of, pre-staging and which aren't. F + R is usually not a signal issue as much as a voltage in the signal.

yeah my HU is ghetto i got no on board procesing really cept basic stuff. i need to get a new one but too broke right now.. thats my next purchase after i get two more peerless sls..

and this was really more of just a question out of curosity really

cant wait for T/A + active crossver =]
