Urine Test (Must Read)

Have you ever met any kids who grew up in the foster care system?

do they seem like well adjusted and successful individuals?

Now imagine if the foster care system was dramatically expanded to include a even more massive amount of children. Do you think they system would improve with increased bureaucracy and less attention to individual kids in the system?

How much do you think it would cost to drug test everyone who receives welfare?

Remember the welfare system isn't a for profit agency, like your employer is.

The costs are not made up for by charging more for goods and services, the costs are absorbed entirely by the welfare system, eating away at any projected savings.

I think this was more dramatic irony than serious politcal debate. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I think you are overestimating the people who are contributing to this thread.

I'm betting that 95% of the people posting actually think this is a good idea.

I'm already paying high taxes, I'd rather spend that money to raise a kid in a decent home than I would to pay for his parents drug habit. At least then I know the kids eating and not running the streets.

How much do you think it costs us to Give welfare and state aid to people who are using the cash they have to buy drugs?(As well as other abuse)

And yes I have met plenty of kids who have gone through our foster care system. Its quite sad, at the same time, I see more success out of those kids, then i do from ones who were raised on welfare/drug abusing parents...

I dont even know why we still have welfare. It was created as a short term fix, not a long term program...

Apparently you don't have much experience with foster kids and group homes for children in state custody.

Here's a hint, it sucks, and it isnt like on the Facts of Life. In real life there is no Mrs. Garret.

But according to you the way to improve the system is to increase the number of children in it?

I wonder how the quality of life compares between a child in a crack house vs. a child in state's custody.

I'd bet a nickle the child would rather be in the crack house.

Perhaps give the women historechomies or forced birth control would be a good option.

to be honest with you guys in theory its a good idea. the welfare system is very flawed and allows far too much flexibility with the funds that are distributed. this may sound corny but instead of giving out checks maybe the government should team up with a large scale department store, walmart comes to mind, and hand out gift cards so that the money can only be spent on items within that store. this would force the people to spend the money on things for either themselves or their family because the last time i checked walmart doesn't come with a heroine section.

I do not think the faster program as it exist today could handle a massive influx of children. What you propose would require a return to massive orphanages. How much do you think that they would cost?

Do you think that the quality of service would improve or fall with a massive expansion?

As it exists today, we already take kids from homes that are obviously using drugs. If you are a total rock fiend its pretty obvious and you lose your kids. What your advocating would end up taking kids away from pot head parents, of which there are too many to even comprehend.

pot head > orphanage

Also the welfare system, as it exists today IS a temporary fix.

Maybe that is why it is called TANF

TEMPORARY assistance to needy families.

Do you think drugs addicts cant sell TVs and shit bought at walmart?

How much do you think it would cost to implement this system and administrate it?

Bureaucracies aren't cheap.

I'm not trying to say this is the best way to go. And no I don't have any experience with the foster care system. But come on it's got to be better than living with a mom or dad who doesn't care about you cause all they think about is getting that next fix.

I do however believe there needs to be some sort of change implemented somewhere. Whether you think doing drugs or being drunk 24/7 is ok or not. You can't honestly believe that the taxpayers should pay for it. Theres just got to be a better way. I have no figures and I'm not going to google to look any up but I'd be willing to bet that kids in foster care have a much higher rate of living a succesful life than kids growing up in a home where their parents stay high all the time.

I'll be the first to admit though I have no experience at all in foster homes or anything like that. I wasn't trying to claim it was a great place but it surely can't be worse.
