UPS visited yesterday...

Sounds like you have some serious install issues. Instead of spending all the extra money just install them correctly and that should help a lot.
i had the box redone back in february, by a reputable person IMO (big competitor)

and thats when i did the 40.xx on the alan jackson song...which is lower then usual for 2 mags even in a trunk.

only thing right now limiting it would be the stock HU.

and like i said in the other thread about new mags

possibly a bad ground, that i didnt see till after the accident, when it had like 100 screws on the ground....and i didnt see it till then b/c the battery was blocking me from lifting up that part of the carpet to see it.

Well since it is all out of your car there isn't much we can do about it now. When you get something new to put them in send me an email. We can figure out which way would be best to install them so they get plenty loud for you.

alright no doubt thanks again!!

but what negative effects would a bad ground have??
There can be a lot of negative effects from a bad ground. You could have been getting voltage drops, and the amp could have been sending a clipped single to the subs. That would even explain why the mags would start to smell on so little power. Having a solid ground is very important in any install.

Also, it looks like you have an old HU in there. Did you set the gains correctly? If you tried to overcompensate for your lacking HU and cranked the gains way up, that could have also caused a clipped single to go to the mags.

the HU isnt old, its just stock, and car is only a year old....

i set the volume on 16, bass +3, then put bass knob up and played the tone.

then slowly turned up gains on amp until distorted then turned down a bit, so it should be lower b/c i hear when you open the trunk they overexcursion....

maybe it was the ground....

oh well its too late now.
