installation issues/ rant

OMG, dont you guys hate when u have something all planned out in your head but when it comes down to the actual install, its a bit more complicated than it seems.????

After my truck got broken into, i had alot of lil ideas and stuff on how i wanted my new system to be. I had bought a alpine 6.5in screen from tweeter a couple years ago and never installed it. So im thinking hey, this time i will install the tv in the dash and make a lil custom face plate thing for it. So if thieves look inside the car, everything will just look black as if nothing is right there. But when u take off the face plate it was going to reveal my screen.

so now where was the headunit going to go? Well i was planning on fiberglassing that into my glove box. I honestly didnt want it right there, but figured it would be good since the screen was taking up all the dash space and i could also lock the glove box alone with taking off the face plate to the cd player. The more i thought about this, the more i liked the idea. Well my cd player came in the mail yesterday. I just went outside to test fit and see if i would have enough room to mount the cdplayer and tsunami voltmeter i just bought. The **** cd player doesnt even fit. Of course the glove box is wide enough, but i need another inch or two in the depth department to make it fit.

Now im trying to figure out where can i put the headunit. I have already started working on the screen. The screen pretty much fits perfect in that spot. The screen fits perfect height wise but was off about an inch width wise. (the screen itself was about an inch shorter) So i done already started fiberglassing around the corners to make it fit.

Anyways, off my rant now... Do any of you guys have any ideas on where i can install my cd player now? Only other place i can see is the middle console..but i like that idea 10x less than the idea of having it in the glove box. Maybe if it was a cd changer..but not headunit. But it seems as if this is the only option i may have.

pics of both the pieces inserted, but not mounted yet. Still needs work. I gotta trim the edges so the top and bottom of each piece are straight. Right now the top sits in deeper than the bottom. Kinda makes a slant.

a upclose pic of all my imperfections. You can see the slant and how i need to sand the edges down to make it smooth. Also fill in those lil gaps in the corners. Dont know exactly what imma use to do it yet, but it needs to be done

Not feeling it so far, I dont know if its the blurry pics or if its just how it was mounted, but looks sloppy to me. I like the idea though.
Probably does look sloppy. Im by far not a professional. My first hand at this. Gotta start somewhere.

Plus everything needs to be repainted. I started sanding the paint off the dash piece. So the fiberglass pieces im working on is a different shade than what its being mounted too. When its done, everything will be painted the same color. I just went ahead and painted it black, because it was looking even worse with out the paint

an unfinished pic of the faceplate im working on. Its just some cardboard wrapped in masking tape. Was going to glass over that, sand, and paint black. Its suppose to sit flush, but as i said, i gotta sand down my pieces so it can fit in place.

Yeah, needs some loving, but I am sure in due time you will get it straightned out. Nice equipment though.

Yea i know. I have worked with it, but it wasnt nothing that needed perfection. Basically getting the hang of it far as mixing, drying time, laying it down. Hopefully with a lil doctoring it will turn out better.

you can fit the headunit in the right side of the glovebox.. you have to cut out the back part. the blower fan is behind that and have to cit a hole in that and make a custom plate to indent in the fan and seal it back off.. i'll try and find some pics for you. i did it to a couple of explorers/ rangers.

Thanks alot... i really hope u can find it. I just keep going outside and staring at it trying to come up with something
