UPS screwup - decision time

Ok. So one of the things I recently ordered was a JBL amp from Cardomain. UPS delivered on Friday. It was listed in the tracking info as damaged in shipment. It was left on my doorstep.

So, here's the thing. Amp looks perfectly fine. JBL box is in tact. What I was given though was a box that was open. Outer box had packing tape torn half way back and box was open. All air packing material was on the bottom. So, it's almost like it's been out. Amp was still in plastic and styrofoam packing inside JBL box. It all looks fine. My only concern is possibly that it may have been dropped.

I spoke with Cardomain, and they said they would file a claim with UPS and have UPS pick it up. Doing that, I basically have to wait for UPS to pick it up and decide that it's a problem. If they say it's fine, then I have to go back to Cardomain and tell them I want to return it, and then get another. Stupid scenarios I know. I'm trying to decide whether to go through all of this, and make sure I get a new amp, or just keep it and hope it's fine and claim warranty if it ever has a problem. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

I'm pretty confident it hasn't been out of the JBL box. Just the outer packing. JBL box doesn't have any scuffs or anything that would indicate that it was really out of the outer CarDomain box.

why companys use UPS ill never know! I work closley with UPS personal. They throw the packages like there nothing. If its a heavy package they will see who the stronger person is and have a throwing contest, NO BS!

Other than the UPS issue, which I can't say is Cardomain's fault. UPS is pretty much the biggest **** shipper out there. They should be able to count on them. And I'll bet FedEx employees aren't much better. I can't say anything bad about Cardomain. They shipped timely, had the best price, and they are an authorized seller. Plus when I called them with the issue, they were very helpful, called back when they said they would, and scheduled UPS to pick it back up. And didn't give me any grief about any of it. That said, I've examined everything thorougly and decided to keep it. Note, I could have used FedEx. I chose UPS to get the free shipping deal. My bad. Lesson learned.

Man that sucks. I say if it is still in its packaging then test it out. If all fails then claim it on the warranty.

I hope they dont fuk with my new sub that should be at my door step with in the week. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

just be on the safe side, return it and get another one. For all you know it could have fallen off a truck or something and they opened it up to see if anything broke. I wouldnt risk it if I were you.

I don't know if it's even really a possibility but the paranoid side of me makes me wonder...

If you were to simply keep the amp (thereby excluding yourself from any realistic future possibility of making a claim against UPS since you accepted the shipment knowing it is shown as damaged in their tracking system) and hope for the best....let's assume that the damage to the amp, if any, is minimal and didn't affect anything that would manifest itself immediately. So - you keep the amp hoping for the best and then 6 months down the road the damage decides to rear its ugly head and the amp takes a crap on you. Could CarDomain refuse to honor the warranty since UPS inarguably shows that the shipment received damage in transit? (Again, I do not know if this is even a possibility...just playing Devil's advocate here) Then if CarDomain refuses to honor the warranty claiming any malfunction is the result of UPS' screwup and UPS can claim they are not liable since you accepted it knowing it was damaged in transit where would that leave you?

I have no doubts that I may potentially be overly paranoid about such things but that paranoia keeps me from getting into situations such as described above because I'd send it back and demand a BNIB (undamaged!) unit since that's what you paid for in the first place.

Just my $0.02.
