I currently have 2 Skar VVX 15's on a ported box tuned to 32hz being powered by brutus 1700.1d.

If I replace it with 4 sealed 12 about the same rms 600-750watts (sundown, Skar, PSI etc) powered by crescendo 2k or aq 2200d on sealed boxes will this be louder, or will it even make sense to upgrade?

thanks

could you fit 4 of these sealed, they are designed for sealed and are amazing subs. 1.5 cube each

I'll keep that in mind and thanks for the heads up

It would probably be about the same, if not quieter.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering this all correctly, but doubling your cone area adds something like 3dbs, and having a ported over sealed adds about 3db. You'd have less than double the cone area so it wouldn't really make sense. If you want to make it louder, get subs that can handle more power and throw as much as you can to them.

so If I do 2 american bass xfl 12 on ported and run the aq 2200, or just change my amp and run the 2 vvx12 15 with aq 2200

the xfl's will get louder. the vvx's are great at getting low but on the spl side no match to the xfl. but if i was you i would buy the aq2200d and see if it is enough for you first and then upgrade subs second

and why not keep 15's in the xfl

This. Xfl 15s would be nasty

Or xfl 18s! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

I think i'll put them on sealed first and see how that sounds then, I might be satisfied with that and its a cheaper upgrade

going by some common rules of thumb and some simple math. ported enclosure have a 3db gain over sealed. doubled power has a 3db gain. you would need 3400+RMS watts to get the same output with a sealed enclosure.

personally i think your wasting your time and money going sealed.

so you are saying i would loose 3db if I go sealed with the current setup I have now?
Yes, ported boxes use both the front and the back wave, the latter of which is tuned in the box's port. Sealed boxes simply trap the back wave, which is why they are naturally quieter.

In a perfect world, the same sub will be twice as loud in a ported box than in a sealed. The only reason going sealed makes any sense is if you're exclusively after SQ or you're very limited on space.
