you sturrin at me brah?
I've got a pair of HDC3 18s in my Explorer. I was running them with a Memphis 4k and they got along just fine, but I recently put an RD D9 on them and its a little too much, so I'm wanting to spread the power out to another motor. I don't want to wall my truck off, and I don't want to come much, if any, higher than my current box is. Current box is 41" wide, 27" tall, and ~33" deep. I'm sure about the first 2 dimensions, but I can't remember off the top of my head how deep it is. I know that its 12 cubes after sub displacement.
My system is designed to push a lot of air and just be brutal on music. I don't worry about numbers, but I get on the TL once in a while just to mess around.
They're D1 18s, so if i can fit it in the Explorer and stay ~27 inches tall, I'd like to just put in a third D1 18. There is about 6 inches of space between the back of my box and the hatch, with a rear firing port at the bottom of the box. I'm attaching a picture. How would it affect my sound to bring the box all the way to the back of the hatch with ports firing up? Just trying to figure out ways to gain airspace while keeping the box low enough to safely drive on busy freeways.
Alternatively, I could recone my 18s and pick up a 3rd 15 and really get the box low. More money + effort though, plus cutting up a perfectly good set of speakers to go smaller... but I feel like I'm going to be cutting corners to squeeze in 3 18s, and I'm wondering if 3 15s in the proper airspace wouldn't get louder.
