you sturrin at me brah?
I've got a pair of HDC3 18s in my Explorer. I was running them with a Memphis 4k and they got along just fine, but I recently put an RD D9 on them and its a little too much, so I'm wanting to spread the power out to another motor. I don't want to wall my truck off, and I don't want to come much, if any, higher than my current box is. Current box is 41" wide, 27" tall, and ~33" deep. I'm sure about the first 2 dimensions, but I can't remember off the top of my head how deep it is. I know that its 12 cubes after sub displacement.

My system is designed to push a lot of air and just be brutal on music. I don't worry about numbers, but I get on the TL once in a while just to mess around.

They're D1 18s, so if i can fit it in the Explorer and stay ~27 inches tall, I'd like to just put in a third D1 18. There is about 6 inches of space between the back of my box and the hatch, with a rear firing port at the bottom of the box. I'm attaching a picture. How would it affect my sound to bring the box all the way to the back of the hatch with ports firing up? Just trying to figure out ways to gain airspace while keeping the box low enough to safely drive on busy freeways.

Alternatively, I could recone my 18s and pick up a 3rd 15 and really get the box low. More money + effort though, plus cutting up a perfectly good set of speakers to go smaller... but I feel like I'm going to be cutting corners to squeeze in 3 18s, and I'm wondering if 3 15s in the proper airspace wouldn't get louder.

what i've heard, is that port up/sub up will still give you numbers, but you give up that nasty super low stuff... i want to be able to play music at retarded levels. can anyone confirm this?

i have been, for a couple of days, at 1.2 ohm nominal. they're aluminum coils, and its beating the hell out of them. they get stinky after 30 or 45 seconds on low, loud music. never did on the memphis.

another option would be to just blow them, and do a custom psi recone so they'll take the power. i dont like having power just chillin if i don't get to use it all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sneaky.gif.7189749b3a3f769e8815b47e8ae87f88.gif

haha yea sorry it is a little dusty. How much power can that amp really do I never got to see all its potential. post some videos go with 4 15's man it will be nasty

Had the three 18's in subs up port back box in my explorer Fi BL's and it was not worth it, box was just to big and not big enough at the same time. Then I walled 3 different 18's (my DP's) and that was better but still not want I wanted. Definitely would NOT try 3 18's in an explorer unless walling it or using backseat. Also I was told different about the sub up port design, in that it WILL play music great but not guaranteed to put up huge numbers on the TL. And since that is how mine is setup now, I will say it definitely gets really low, and yea haven't metered it yet. Would go with 15's if I were you. Also sent ya a pm about your mla in the explorer
