Upgrading. from 2 15's -> 4 15's. Go with a wall? Big audible increase? (audioque)

Been thinking of changing up my setup for a little more spl output and its summer and a weekend project would be kinda cool.

I currently have 2 audioque sdc 2.5 15's in a big ported high tune box but was thinking of going to 4 of them, all getting full 500rms in a ported box.

Ive got an suv so I was going subs up port back, but theres very little room betweem my port and my hatch so i think I might be losing some output there....

if I were to try and fit 4 woofers I would probably have to make them face the front of the vehicle and put the port wherever.

Is there any benefit from going to a wall? Do I just have to seal off the box front face from the back of the car or something, to reduce total cabin space? Or is there more involved purpose Im missing?

Curious to know how much of a audible increase there would be aswell

thanks

Going from 2 to 4 should be a nice increase in itself... but a wall should be a drastic increase. As you said there is less cabin space. The basic idea of a wall is a huge box firing forward sealed off from the rest of the cabin.. Nothing magic about it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

on 500 watts you probably wont get much change much on a meter or audiable. Id suggest more power in the end, but hey a big *** box with 4 15's is nothing to scoff at. Going with a wall is a big step, so I wouldnt suggest that unless you're going for looks.

Id just make the box one big enclosure, sort of if not identical to this :

Ya my only problem is my trunk doesnt have any depth, I can only make my box like 25" deep so I have to put it to the ceiling and 37" wide, which would block all my vision through the back anyways so I was thinking of just going with a wall

And those 2 responces were kinda opposite from eachother lol

I thought you said you had a SUV? If so, it sounds like you're trying to stuff everything behind the 3rd row seating. It will be loud, but dont expect anything super duper on the termlab.

Ya everythings going behind the 3rd row. I dont go to comps or will I probably ever get it meterred. I was just curious how hard and how big of a gain I would get by walling it off from the rear.

Are there any non permanenet ways to making a way? I was thinking of making the box, then just making a cover panel for the front that fit the contours of the car VERY close, little gap all the way around, then somehow sealing it around without hurtining the interior....

I was under the impression that you wanted to build a wall and add an addition 2 subs with an additional 1000watts rms. (or 500rms to each new sub). For a total of 2k rms on 4 woofers.I could have misunderstood... But if this is the case, I was just saying there would be an audible difference either way. But I think a wall would be louder than a standard ported enclosure. If you can fit a standard box, it would be much less work to go that route.

Btw, you should trust snoopdan, he has much more experience. I was merely speculating. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

No you were right. Ive already got 2 15's with there full rated power (500rms each) and Im wanting to add 2 more also with there own 500rms.

Just curious the audible difference in going from a regular enclosure, to a wall, and having the port face forward as well as the subs obviously....

still curious how to seal the walls last 1/8-1/4" gaps around the panel I would have to make that wouldnt ruin the headliner and side panels....
