since i'm gonna go bigger on powah, i will need more juice. people's thoughts of beefing up a stock alt compared to a aftermarket alt? place in little rock will upgrade my alt for like a dollar a amp. thinking of going to a 300 amp.
really no way to put 2 alts in my truck. the damn alt is underneath the engine like most nissan vq's. hell i had to take the front tire off and wheel well cover just to do the big 3 lol. real pain in the ass to get toReasons I would go aftermarket.... 1.) rewound alts are not designed with the right type of diode bridges, regulator switches, and generally as said before don't do well at idle. If you rewind an alternator, it will exponentially decrease the life of it. 2.) I dunno who told you that they could make it 300 amps but in a physical sense, but unless they are going to be replacing alot of the components in that stock alt, it shouldn't be able to do more than around 220 at very best. And lastly in the wold of heavy amp car audio, it is NEVER a bad idea to have two alternators because of the strain high end car audio will poss on the alternator, it is not uncommon for the HO alt to go out after about 2-4 years, at which point you can pop that stock back in and send the aftermarket in for warranty, and keep on driving from point a to b
When I mentioned two I really wasnt saying run them both at the same time, you really want to have the same style if you go with more than one alt...I just meant when the aftermarket craps out you have the original one to put in while the aftermarket is being repaired, although with what you just told me sound like pulling out and putting in is a real *****...I sometimes forget that other people dont have Honda's alt placement...right up frontreally no way to put 2 alts in my truck. the damn alt is underneath the engine like most nissan vq's. hell i had to take the front tire off and wheel well cover just to do the big 3 lol. real pain in the ass to get to
