Upgrading a factory Alpine system in a dodge viper

Hey im trying to upgrade the OEM factory Alpine setup in a 2000 Viper GTS ACR.

I am thinking to retain the "Factory Alpine" presence in the car except with today's technology.

I've had amplified type X 6.5" component speakers before on an alpine 4 channel but wasn't anything to write home about and the type X didn't take much abuse before cracking the speakers.

I've "heard" the type R withstand more abuse is this true?

The car has four 6.5" speakers with factory component speakers in the two front doors and an alpine factor amp in the trunk.

I was debating starting with either two coaxial type s in the rear and component type s in the front. Would I see a substantial difference going for type R's? Is there a better bang for my buck on 6.5" these days if I decide to ditch the alpine theme?

Not looking to enter car stereo comps or anything but the OEM speakers are literally dry rotted and have fell apart at this point.

Type X is better than type R. There are much better speakers than Alpines. I'm an Admin at For the Love of Bass on Facebook. Please join and ask this question there and you will for sure get some answers to look into. I personally go with a component set so I don't have much experience with coaxials
