Brand Questions...

Hey folks. I used to be into the scene heavy, but life happened and haven't been into things since around the time HiFonics and MbQuart sold out. I'm going to be replacing the drivers in my front and rear stage soon and need to know what (if any) are the brands to look for. I know that what crutchfield used to sell, I would never put in my vehicles. But times may have changed. I know RE Audio, Focal, Memphis, Atomic, Diamond etc used to be upper end. But I need to know how the landscape has changed and where to look. Thanks.

Note: Will be looking for 6.75" 2 way components with actual crossovers for front and 6.5" coax for rear stage

Talk to myslows10, trumpet or denim on this forum. They are all dealers of various brands and back what they sell. What is your budget? And what vehicle as they all have different clearances for mounting depth.

I purchased a set of Morel Tempo Ultra 602 two-way components earlier this year. BEST ADDITION TO MY CAR AUDIO, YET!!! They are listed as 6.5" but I think they measure out as 6.75". Ultra smooth tweeters with mid-bass drivers that give a good amount of punchy bass.

There's a link on diymobileaudio.com that discusses a complete build using these speakers. The guy loves the speakers and talks a lot about them in the thread. Here's the link:

Basic SQ Install: 14' STi - Review of Morel Tempo Ultra - Arc, Mosconi - Car Audio | DiyMobileAudio.com | Car Stereo Forum

With my experience with these speakers, the guy's observations/opinions are right on.

Crutchfield picked up the brand earlier this year, after I purchased them, although. Morel is a brand you should seriously consider.

Vehicle is an 03 Sentra w Rockford system. I'll probably have to crack open the door panel to measure the depth to the glass and track when rolled down. I'd imagine with it having a slightly upgraded system, the magnet can be slightly larger than expected, but you know how shallow that still is in most cases. Budget wise I was looking to stay around $150 for front stage and $100 for rear.

Well, with that budget you do not want the Morels. I'd suggest looking at Polk Audio DB6501. You can get them on Amazon for about $130, but I think you'd better hurry. Polk may have discontinued them, as Crutchfield and SonicElectronix are not carrying them anymore.

There is no such thing as a rear stage.

Ditch the rears and put all you can into the front. All rear fill does is jack up the sound stage if you do end up getting it right. It only works with the right processing. 5.1, 7.1. Music is recorded in 2.1. Left/right. Sub bass

I'd look into the top NVX set on sonic

VE Audio.. We can meet your budget. We have $400 components we can sell at cost to help get the name out in the US more. Best deal there is.

I second this. Almost all music isnt rendered in 5.1 or or higher, you just get a big glob of 2.1 mess with 4 speakers and the rear just distracts you away from having any sense of a real concert in your car.
