My folks back in NC still have it, though I think I've finally convinced them that not going with satellite is idiotic, with the gas they spend driving somewhere that has Wifi...

Face it, for homes that aren't in developed neighborhoods, it's either dial-up or satellite. Other technologies like BPL just aren't there yet...

Yeah, I know a few people online that are in the middle of nowhere and have to get satellite. Hell, I even know someone here (greater NY area) that has it because he only has a laptop and it's convenient.

Surprised no one suggested that to the OP a long time ago when he still had dial up.
