upgrade power and ground from alternator?

Im doing my big 3 as I type. Should I upgrade the ground wire from the alternator along with the power wire? And one more, Is it ok If I just add onto the alternators power wire instead of taking off the stock one? Thanks.

yes, adding on is perfectly fine. ground the alt to the chassis.
