upgrade from my SE?

i was bumpin around today when my sub started to make a strange smell, i didnt really think i was pushin her that hard, and didnt hear ne poppin. my gain is set probably at less than a half turn, with no bass boost. but i decided i wanted to upgrade from my 12 SE and go from SQ to SPL..

i have a 500/1 JL amp, with a box tuned to 32 [thanks to moelesters plans]

any suggestions on a new sub? i was maybe thinkin an rl-p 12?

I actaully think a type r may be louder, it would be good for your setup

that smell was probably just glue gettin' warm. Now that I've smelled a VC go, my SE's never made THAT smell with more power than you've got for extended periods of time.

so your saying that even tho that nasty smell fills my car, its ok? wen popped the back and played the songs at the same level, there was some popping, but it wasnt to bad bc the beats were so low.. am i still ok?

i really love how low my SE gets.. but then again i havent heard any other decent subs so maybe it isnt that great haha

Don't take my advice, I can't tell you what that smell is for sure. Mine turned out to be excess glue. the smell I witnessed Sunday during a XXX walled until death won't be forgotten and smells horrible.

What popping are you talking about? Was the sub reaching full excursion, or tinsel lead slap?

the SE's are 600 RMS. That means all day long in a proper enclosure at that wattage with no damage to the voice coils. Free-air, playing below tuning, etc. affect that power rating.

Whats your budget for a new sub? I have a 15" Inhuman that is a great SPL driver.
