upgrade from jl to rainbow?

Those contours would do very well with 120x2 @ 4 ohms. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Sweet the deal is closed. I got the Contours for $160. How I have to find time to install and then look around for an amp. Tweets should wow me as they have everyone else but I might end up upgrading the 5.25" drivers. At least the guy was kind enough to give me his mdf adapter 5.25" to 6.5".

You think 120rms to each is a bit overkill for a 80rms rated speaker components? I ever have problems overpowering my subs but to my JL's I'm only sending them 40rms and they are rated at 60rms.

This will be my first time installing a set of components so I'll be looking to you guys for guidance. I'll probably just drop them in with my current mtx amp until I get a replacement amp. Will need to cut a hole in my sail panels for the tweets. It's going to be a fun project =P

Looks like my JL's are going to be posted for sale real soon.

that's why you turn the gains down a little. it won't blow the speaker unless you play it up to distortion. so to answer your question, no, it won't be overkill.

I will only be needing a 2 channel amp right? Or do I need a channel dedicated to each tweeter and 5.25 driver? This is my first time installing components so I'm not quite sure how it works. The inputs from the amp to the crossover makes sense obviously but from the crossover to the tweets it gets confusing because there are 3 inputs. This is hard to explain but if you guys would look at the pic of the crossover I posted, would you explain to me how to do the wiring? Thanks!

it depends on if your components is biampable... if it is then one tweeter to 1st channel, one woofer to 2nd channel, second tweeter to 3rd channel etc.....

of course matching each speaker it's corresponding position.

For the tweeter input there are 3 screws, (a)+0db (b)+3db ©- . Should I just play around with the (+) input for the tweeters? I noticed that the tweeter wires are pretty short at around 3 inches. I suppose the crossover has to be mounted pretty high up on the door? Or should I solder an extension to the tweeter wires?

I'm thinking about getting a RF P5002 amp to match my P8002. Will that amp be decent enough for the Rainbows? I want to make the most out of the Contours and I need you guys to help me select an amp.
fosgate sucks get something like JL, phoenix gold rsd series, hifonics, what not...

I won't do hifonics ever,..haha sorry and JL 300.2 would be perfect except the price tag is a bit expensive at around $300I think my budget is $200 max.
shop around man. you get what you pay for. just stay away from sorry *** fosgate..

check ebay for phoenix gold amps.. there are plenty at the $125 range.. that's how much i got my 800:4 for...

Yup that's what I'm doing. Actually I'm looking at used JL amps now lol. By the way, nice pic. Karate?

I've heard good things about the PG amps but never used them and don't really like the looks of them,.. not that it should be my deciding factor....

JL is always a reputable brand name to go with. Phoenix gold did go down as far as quality from what I hear but it works great for me. I know the PG RSD amps are suppose to be pretty good. Haven't tried those yet. I have the octane series 4channel amp by them.

Yeah, that's a picture a friend of mine took couple weeks back. It's Tae Kwon Do though. 3rd degree National competitor. shh don't tell anyone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif It looks good for my future career on the resume. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

But yeah, looks never hurt anything but I wouldn't care too much about how it(amp) looks.
