Is there a tool to tell you the difference in POS and NEG

When I first hooked up my head unit the door speakers wouldnt play b.c of the factory amp, I didnt know you could hook up the blue wire or whatever to get them to work. So I used some wire I had laying around to run the doors. I do not know which are positive and which are negative and I know the door speakers should sound better. Is there a tool I can get that would tell me this? Thanks!

9 volt battery. Touch the battery to your suspected wires, and if the speaker moves out, the wire on the positive terminal of the battery is your positive. If the speaker moves in, you have the negative speaker wire on the battery positive terminal.

If you are able to SEE the speaker itself move... take a 9Volt Battery and tap the wires on the pos/neg.

Put one wire on the negative... and then tap the other on the positive. Whichever wire make the speaker move in the OUT position while touched to positive it the positive wire.

OR, tell me what Year/make/model vehicle you have, and I may be able to tell you.

Wow, so easy, thanks guys! I have a 97 mountaineer. The factory wires are not being used anymore, I had some red wire laying around and used it, there is not a way to tell on the wire itself. So the easiest way to do this is take the panels off, unhook the speakers from the HU and test them on the wires from the head unit.

Second question, is the solid wire color or the color with a black stripe positive?

Thanks alot guys!
