understanding frequecies?

on my dad's stock deck there is a 5 band eq. The thing i don't unberstand is on the left side are the low frequencies. So how come when I put the knob all the way down, I don't here deep bass? Is it cause those are the frequencies we can't hear?

by putting the knob down it lowers the level of the bass, therefore it is quieter, therefore you don't hear as much bass

don't mean to hijack thread but on the alpine HU, there is three number for every band....

ex: 0 1.0 63

the 0 is the level, the 1 i have no idea...but it goes up to 3.0, then the 63 is the hertz of the band...

what does the middle number mean??

It's the width of the affected range of frequencies
