underrated amps.....

depends on the line of the amp. i'm sure all US acoustics and Rockford amps (especially their older ones by a lot) are underrated. they are rated at about 12.9volts. thats why you get more power because stock electrical system usually run from 13-14.4volts, which will give the amp more power. Result? more power..

true. also, so other companies like MTX makes amps that are underrated not because that they rate them at 12.9 V, but for other reasons unknown to me. MTX amps are generally about 30% underrated @ 4ohms. my mtx amp is 32% underrated @ 4ohm, 18% underrated @ 2 ohm:)

that seems a little far fetched though that those pionneer premier amps are over 100 percent underrated (over twice the power they claim)... i mean i could buy the amp and then blow my subs and blame them for it for rating there amp half of what it actually does..

Thats the actual spec sheet - they dont lie //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

yeah... i think they should just perform at least as good as their spec and up to 30 percent extra.. well as far as power is concerned anyways. I think when companies underrate there products by that much that they are just doing it to get popular with the competitors who compete in classes ranked by power output, cus then it makes there brand look good.. I mean its good to rate conservatively, ie rate at 12.5 volts instead of 14.4.. when 14.4 will usually give about 20-30 percent more.. but to underrate by 100% seems a bit overboard.. its good no doubt, its just i dont see why they didnt rate it higher..

pioneer is like a toyota and the premier series is like a lexus. toyota (pioneer) is a good company with mid-level stuff. the higher end premier (lexus) offers more in performance and quality. u get the point:D

I heard the guys that used to make rocksford amps are now working for MTX thats why there amps slam so much and are so underrated. I was surprised how much power those amps have when i hooked one up in my car.

i had an old mtx amp that was called like a 250x or something.. put out 250 watts bridged into 4 ohms.. i pushed it bridged at 2 ohms and it put out a lot of power.. it pushed some mtx 8000's almost as good an an MA audio sy5011dx which was supposed to put out 1000 watts at 1 ohm.. it got hot, since it wasnt supposed to run at 2 ohms bridged, but never turned off or had any problems.. my friend has it now and it still hitting.

That Premier spec sheet tells me that it's supposed to put out 100x2 @ 4, or 200 total, and actually puts out 240. 400x2 @ 2, or 800 total, and actually does 843. Under-rated, but not that much.

N2audio, i thought the same thing you did when i looked at it at first, then i looked more closely and realized that cant be true cus it says rms x1 @ 4 ohms - 400, and did 823 or whatever.. thats a lot to be underrated if you ask me..
