Underpowering K2P's..

Hey guys,

I just noticed that I'm powering my new k2p focal speakers with only 75 RMS from 2 channels of a JL 300/4v2 AMP to them when they're rated at 100 RMS.. I'm wondering, am I missing out in even more detailed full range sound from those speakers? Or would those extra 25 watts per speaker give me no more soud quality?

It'll be the same sound quality but you can definately feed them more power. You can always bridge 2 channels on your amp and feed them double the power unless your using all 4 channels. If you're using it for rear speakers, try bridging the amp (feeding your focals double the power) and see if you like that better.

You mean disconnecting the rear channels and using them for one of my speakers bridged? or is there actually a way to bridge while still using 4 channels for 4 speakers? I'm sorry, just a little opened minded here..

Yeah sorry for not being more clear. You would just be using it as a 2ch. amp once the 4 channels are bridged.

Hum.. I dunno, so more power = louder but not richer mids or anything like that at moderate listening levels..? I don't think it worth it then since my rear speakers are right behind my neck in my 350z that I feel like I need them to appreciate the mids bass and voices.. but I'll definitely give the bridge a chance and I'll probably end up selling the 300/4v2 and getting the 450/4v2.. Lets see..

-165 CVX rear Focal Coaxials

Give it a shot. Maybe you'd also be able to bridge your fronts and run the rear off of your head unit power. The k2p's are pretty power hungry comps though, so the 450/4 might be your best bet.

I'm guessing they're is a right and wrong way to bridge speakers, I found it more complicated than I thought but I think I figured it out..

So, I split the front speaker wires, negative to one channel and positive to the other channel, one speaker running of the front output and the other off the rear outputs.. Okay, then RCA's; one to the front input using a Y-RCA spliter for either the right or left channel and the opposite of the last one for the rear using a Y-spliter once again.. is that it?

If that's correct, then I guess they're has to be more to it as my K2P's sound quite annoying now, they're really high pitched and no surround affect.. I have to much highs, not enough mids to overcome the highs, putting the treble down helps a bit but it doesn't sound worth the effort and money spent into buying such speakers as they sound unbalanced and much more like a cheap total value system of 1,200 dollars instead of the 6 grands spent into such a system..
