Underpowered Punch HX2's.

I just bought a pair of 12" punch HX2's today. Sealed enclosure. I'm driving them right now with a Profile msx 600 (300w@4 ohms...which is what i've had to set these up at since they are 4 ohm dvc).

Right now they dont sound that good. There isnt a lot of punch and its SUPER boomy right now. If there were bass notes being played....its all mush. I like tight bass with good definition and punch. Not BOOM. I listen to rock and roll, blues and other stuff. NOT RAP!

I KNOW they are underpowered. What I'm wondering is if the underpowering is main reason for the muddiness of the sound. Not sure if I want to look at another amp to drive them or say screw it and get a pair of 10's that arent quite so power hungry. (Memphis power references should work well).

If more power is the answer...got any recommendations on an amp to run them that wont break the bank? I was thinking maybe a Profile AP2000. Can get a refurbed for $140. 480w rms @ 2 ohms each side (which I can wire these dvc's to do).

Yeah, I think I may have made a mistake in buying.

When we start getting up into the Fosgate BD1500 and amps like that...are you looking at having to make changes to your cars electrical system to power them?

No more than what you normally should have done.

Buy a better battery, make sure to run large enough power/ground cable (1/0).

And do the big 3.

With that amp I'm sure you are driving the speakers distorted to get any out put from the Hx2's sealed.

I had one ported on the proper power and wow;)

If you were looking for tight, clean SQ then you got the wrong subs. HX2's don't sound all that bad but they just aren't built for great SQ. They're more of a street beater/SPL type sub.

Just give em to me and buy some Rs...

i've been just running one of them and its better...but definitely NOT SQ. THe whole reason I got them was I heard a single 10" HE2 in a sealed Qlogic box and was amazed at the punch and sound it had. I thought the HX2's would be better yet. I got a good deal on them at least...so someone will get a good deal in Minnesota on them when I sell them.

you don't just assume when you spend money, you have to find out.

are the punch HX2 the same as the Punch P3's ? I have a pair of p3's 12's in a vented box being powered by a viper 1200.1 and they sound very loud and boomy. I'm probably going to sell them and get a pair of Type R's.

Wierd in a ported box tuned to 27hz it sounded amazing to me...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Sounded amazing? I guess it's subjective. When I heard 2 12's in a 4cf ported box @ 35hz, the SQ was nowhere near amazing.
