So I just hooked up my amp up to my car and the power and protect light comes on for a little bit then it just goes into protect. It doesn't actually power on until my RCA's are plugged in. Why is this happening? Could it be my RCA's? My ground wire is connected to the negative terminal on my backup battery.

I dont think its broke because when I hooked it up to the battery in my house it worked. I put the power cable to the positive terminal, ground to the negative, and the rem to the positive terminal while it was in my house any it powered on perfectly without the protect light coming on.

Sounds like its busted, but you can take an Ipod or mp3 player and plug it into your amp with a "phono to dual RCA" wire and see if you can hear music. At least then you can rule out bad RCA's.

There is a possibility that one of your RCA wires is grounded somewhere and that could cause the amp to go into protect. Does this happen before you hear anything from the speakers? Or does it go into protect only after playing some music? What is your power input voltage at the amp? sounds like the amp should be good if it worked on your bench. Help us help you with some more info.
